My mom was great enough to come get the boys on Thursday, since Big A was out of school for Spring Break and she wasn't scheduled to work Thursday or Friday. Bryan and I went to T-ball orientation on Saturday morning and then the plan was to go relieve Katie of being responsible for the boys on Saturday morning (since both my parents were working). We were planning on spending the day and evening there and then heading back to our house about the boys' bedtime- so I did NOT pack anything for Bryan and me. As were we getting ready to go home, I am in the kitchen about to get Katie some water when my mom says, in a tone that I am needed quickly but not panicked, "Karin. Karin." I quickly head towards the bathroom where I know toddler i is and Lil A is crying. I was thinking, "oh, great, i bit Lil A." I was very wrong. I saw the blood on his hand and my mom had tissue or something up to his forehead to help with the bleeding. I hollered for Bryan, he picked up Lil A. I grabbed a booster out of our car and we headed to the Emergency Department in my mom's car. To calm him down, I sat in the back holding paper towels to his forehead so he could have 2 hands to play Pocket God and Pocket Devil. When we got on the freeway, I called my parents' house to request that the other boys be put to bed, which was already happening of course but still I felt like I needed to call since I just ran out the door leaving 2 boys behind.
When we arrived there, Bryan carried Lil A in and I parked the car, being 8 months pregnant, I thought that arrangement worked best. Every worker asked us what happened, which I expect but after every person would ask, I would turn to Lil A and say "And are you going to do it again?" A very serious "NO." was always the response. After waiting a couple minutes, we were taken to our room, where the nurse cleaned the wound a little bit and had him lying down. Then the doctor came and looked at him. Then we waited a while, not as long as we could have but long enough to need to take a lot of photos for entertainment.
During the trip, we found out what happened. He had stacked blankets and pillows and was falling on top of them. In his words, "pillows and blankets really high and then my belly would land on them." But the problem was that this was on a futon with solid wood armrests, so yes his belly was landing on the pillows and blankets but his head hit the armrests and he had a huge gash in his forehead. Bryan inspected closer than I did and saw bone.
He was a great patient. They did have someone come in to hold his head still while he got the shots (between 5 and 10 injections) of lidocaine to numb the area. I held his hands. The doctor called the injections of lidocaine "mosquito bites" and Lil A says the mosquito bites were the worst. He has 7 stitches and got a smoothie from Jack in the Box for being so good while he got worked on.
Since we didn't get back to my parents' house until late, pretty close to midnight, we stayed the night and went to church there. I spent the rest of the day/evening on the couch, way too much activity/stress over the past few days and my body decided it couldn't handle it anymore. I am grateful that it happened while we were around family so I didn't worry about the uninjured boys.
