Last night we had an Enrichment Night that was all about parties. I wish I had taken my camera so you can see what people brought to display their topic. One sister spoke on invitations, 2 on decorations/table settings, one on gift wrapping, one on games, one on party favors and one on food. It was pretty interesting to see some of things people enjoy doing. I personally cannot spend hours every few days redecorating- I am lucky if I decorate anything these days.
The invites were along my lines and she had cute suggestions for invites (i.e, New Year's Eve Party: put invite in balloon- then the person pops the balloon to get invite and have 'Bang of a Time' on invite, I don't like balloons so I would not want to give that or receive it but I thought for others who aren't terrified of popping balloons, it was a cute idea).
One of the decorators had my feelings about it, she does it once for the holiday/season and she is done. Right now, all of my stuff is in storage and I really don't have anywhere to put stuff. I have a lighted pumpkin that Bryan's mom gave us on the TV stand, but that is it unless I have it on the floor or on the limited amount of kitchen space. Maybe once I get my stuff and have bookshelves again or no children around to drag them everywhere by the cord.
I like to wrap Christmas gifts, but I turn on a movie and wrap, her husband wraps all of their gifts at Christmas and he wrapped presents for her to show- he is quite creative and pretty good. I was REALLY surprised that he wrapped the gifts, they looked way better than any present I have ever wrapped- not that I am great.
I thought the party favors were a good idea for VT gifts but I think I am really informal. I think the party is the gift and I don't feel I know everyone invited to the party well enough to get gifts that aren't going to be re-gifted or trashed.
The games were fun! I can email anyone the games sheet if you are interested. Some games are for FHE and some are for Family Reunions, Girls' Camp (large groups of people).
The food was really good (she had "samples" for us to try). She had the recipes and everything I tried was good and EASY. She also had suggestions on how to make your guests feel comfortable.
For those of you that remember me from my glory days in Waco, I love a get-together and this Enrichment Night made me want to have one so bad. But it is hard when you don't really have a good location (our apartment is smaller here than there) and I don't think it is as necessary as it was there. I NEEDED to have an excuse for Bryan to study at home while I did "girl" things. And we don't have people over for dinner anymore- shocking I know- but Bryan gets home later than most people eat dinner (okay most people are putting their kids to bed when we are eating dinner) or we go out of town. I have been helping with playgroup activities and Girls' Movie Night and I went to Girls' Night Out. I am trying to get out there and find others like me- and I think I have found a few that will go along with my crazy ideas.

Sounds like a fun night. I'd love the FHE game ideas if you have time to send them on to me. I have no enthusiasm for partying...except when Briel begs for birthdays, etc. Maybe I should go to Enrichment things...now we're in Primary I feel disconnected from RS activities! ;)
I'll have to pass that idea on to our ward. Sounds like fun. I'm doing a presentation at ours tomorrow night, "Inspire Your Child to Read". (One of my canned presentations from years as Title I Director for our school district). It is one of my favorites, though. I love reading to/with kids! I hope lots of young moms and grandmas show up. Glad you're finding new friends. I'm leaving my 16 to 18 yr. old Sunday School kid and going back to Primary. I'm going to need Enrichment more now, like Misty.
I will go along with your ideas...and I don't think that they are at all crazy!! It was fun last night we should plan a party!!!
Am I getting from you that although you admire all the things that lady did, you don't really want to do any of them short of having a bunch of people over to your house to par-tay? You really are on the wrong coast. We par-tay all the time.
Ali is right. It is always going on over here.
Send me the games, the recipes, and the how to make your guests comfortable tips. Please.
Sounds like a Karin kind of night...full of fun!! I miss your parties!
I just got back from a Spanish fiesta, complete with tapas, paella and running with bulls. Very fun. OK- no bulls, but still a fiesta divertida! I think the simplest nights are the funnest. Hanging out with friends and eating good food is perfect in my book.
Hey thanks for sharing! You got my brain, well, those chipmunks running on the wheels in my brain, just a going! Would you send me anything else please!!
