So IT Begins...

In honor of the start of the season, I thought I would add a photo to the header. Not only will our Saturdays and Thursday be filled with college football games, we will be enjoying BBQ as well. Tomorrow we will be eating brisket. We stopped by Frank's Meats in downtown San Berdo for it. Bryan will start the BBQing process in about 20 minutes. He has already looked up a rub recipe online and mixed it up. We (Jill & I) look forward to football season for BBQ. My job is taking care of everything but the meat, so I am always on the look out for great, EASY and inexpensive sides. I haven't really decided what sides to have yet. Any suggestions?

On Sunday, we are meeting Heather and her family at a park near her folks house (which I think is relatively close to Bryan's office). I am to bring a dessert and again, my mind is blank. So any suggestions for an EASY but YUMMY dessert, I am more than willing to take suggestions. I have been having issues lately on deciding what to eat. Then when I can't come up with anything, I eat junk. As I type this, I realized I haven't even been eating my back-up second dinner lately- which is a PB&J. I always have crackers in the pantry and fruit, so that is what I have been eating. Oh and those real fruit roll-ups. And, of course, those yummy Swiss Miss Fudge Bars but I blame those on the heat. What are some things you have been eating/craving lately?

So I just had a baby shower for my friend here, and there was lots of good food. Maybe our menu will inspire your picnic:

*fruit plate
*spinich salad with apples, crasins, pine nuts and poppyseed dressing (YUM!)
*ham & cheese spirals (made on a big piece of flat bread, rolled up & cut into spirals)
*choc chip cookies
*brownies with mini-marshmallows mixed into choc frosting on top (very gooey, but delish)
*cheesecake

The brownies are fast and inexpensive. They taste alot like mom's marshmallow surprize cookies. We cut them up and served them in pretty cupcake papers to help with the gooey factor.

I can't believe you are excited about college football. I hate football and when Bryan announced to me that it had started, I just groaned. There goes my husband for the next few months.

Craig is happy it's a holiday weekend so he can watch this game at Ned's. PC is going to ruin the rest of the season for him though. We keep eating chocolate chip cookies. Can't think of anything better than that. :) Like the picture you added. Rachel sent me instructions of how to add things to the blog header, etc. I'm still trying to figure it out though. Maybe I'll forward it to you. :)

It's a little late for your Sunday BBQ, but I have a fun recipe for future desserts... Carmel Apple Salad. You cut apples into little chunks, bite size snickers bars into fourths and stir in a container of cool whip. Very different and yummy! I also like cookie salad. Mix a quart of buttermilk with one large pkg of vanilla pudding and one small pkg of vanilla pudding until fluffy. Stir in a container of cool whip. Add one can of mandarin oranges (drained) two sliced bananas and one pkg of fudge stripe cookies (crumbled up). It also sounds strange but it is delicious. Hope these inspire your side dish creativity! Happy football season.

Shauni's recipes sound delicious! I have no idea what I've been eating lately. Cereal? Cookies at game night. Things are so crazy with the move we haven't even had a planned meal in like a week.

Jello cake is one of my favorite and it's light and refreashing. Make a white cake. When it is cool make holes with a wooden spoon all over the cake. Make large box of cherry jello(what ever flavor you like) with half the water. Pour spoon fulls of jello in the holes. Keep filling holes tell all jello is gone. Put in the frig. for about two hours. Cover with cool whip.
